Healing Tips After an Auto Injury

The physical trauma of an automobile accident can cause ongoing back pain and prevent normal daily activities, such as working. Depending on the severity of an auto injury, it can take weeks or months to recover. It's imperative that you listen to your body and allow yourself time to heal before engaging in strenuous activity. Jumping back into your routine too quickly can trigger a relapse. But there are ways to speed your recovery.

1. Use ice for auto injury pain. Back soreness is common after an auto accident. Apply ice to sore back muscles for about 10 to 15 minutes throughout the day. This treatment option reduces inflammation and contributes to faster healing.

2. Take it easy. Even if your injuries aren't severe, limit sitting and standing for long periods. It's okay to move around and improve joint and muscle flexibility, but don't overdo it. Listen to your doctor and take the needed time off from work.

3. Drink plenty of water to promote healing. Unknown to some, the body can dehydrate faster after a traumatic injury. Increase your water intake and take in about eight glasses of fluid daily.

If you or anyone you know has been in an auto accident, it's extremely important to get an evaluation by a health care professional.  Even low impact collisions can cause long term damage.  Pain can also take days, weeks or even months to manifest as a noticeable problem.
