3 Easy Tips for Neck Pain

Neck pain can have a major affect on your life, especially if you're relatively active. You can reach for the pills to dull inflammation. But rather than load up on medicine every four to six hours, consider other ways to relieve neck pain.

1. Go for a swim. Even if you do not swim, sitting in a pool can relax tense muscles and ease inflammation. Make sure that you're covered from the neck down. You can also relax in a hot tub for 15 to 20 minutes. The heat from the spa can provide similar results.

2. Change your position. Sitting for long periods is a common trigger of neck pain. While you can't always break your position, take frequent breaks and move your neck from side to side. This can loosen your muscles and reduce pain. Consider adjusting your computer monitor to eye level. Sometimes, neck pain can result from constantly looking up or down.

3. Switch out your pillow. If neck pain occurs after sleep, perhaps it's time for a new pillow. Trade in your dated pillow for one that offers maximum support and comfort.
